One of the great finishes in this event, similar to Beijing.

GOLD - United States, 7:15.69
SILVER - West Germany 7:15.73
BRONZE - Great Britain, 7:24.78

Jim Lampley and Mark Spitz called the Olympic swimming events for ABC at the USC Pool in 1984.

  • How about the medal ceremony afterwards?

  • @PungiFungi

I included the tape of the medal ceremony when I had it. Sometimes my dad taped only a small portion of the medal ceremony and stopped the tape often. When I had only a short choppy version I didn't feel comfortable attaching it to the end. In this case I'm not sure if the medal ceremony was taped at all.

  • excuse me, you made a mistake in your description. the second place was a 7:15.73 not .63... In that case the second place was FASTER than the first place :-)

  • @Salamence3000

Thank you for pointing that out. I fixed it.

I was confident I'd made mistakes like that in posting the Olympic results. Actually, I'm happy only one has been detected so far, and it took 2+ months. :)

  • I know we only care about winners, but it still seems undignified to ignore the team coming in for bronze. You'd only have to hold off the gushing for a few seconds.

  • could anyone have called that race better than jim lampley? goodness.

  • but, at 2008 was only about Lezak's big balls, at 1984 had tactical, intelligence... and greatest balls. I remember Gross talking after, one of the best swimmers ever, power and elegance

  • I about peed in my pants watching this heartstopper. Great race from the German

men, but an even better race from the American men.

  • What A heart stopper. I remember watching this on Television. I can only imagine

what it would have been like watching it in person.

  • I just got done geting instructed by a man that would have been in that race but broke his wrist he was a realy educated man on the technic you need to have!

  • That race was epic! I put that in the same category as Jason Lezak's race in 2008! Wow! Americans really know how to beat the odds! lol! I wish more people could see this race! Sadly, it will be lost to the younger generation forever!
