Lyrics by Taras Shevchenko, music by Solomia.
"Rusalka" means "mermaid" on Ukrainian.
Translation:
My mom gave me a birth
in the palace
And brought me
to the Dnipro river at the midnight.
Oh, go on, swim, my daughter,
Oh, by the Dnipro river
And emerge as a mermaid
Tomorrow midnight.
Refrain:
I swam, I swam,
I swam by the water,
Until my sisters met me
And took me with them.
Once mom went for a walk
And Dnipro girls
Started playing with her,
Playing and tickling,
Glad that they caught her.
They played and tickled,
Until put her right to the deepest place
And laughed.
Only one mermaid
Didnt laugh.
Refrain:
She swam, she swam,
She swam by the water,
Until she met her mother
And took her mom with her.
Actually, Rusalka does mean mermaid..

Rusalka or vila isn't a mermaid in Ukrainian, it's a demon, a dead girl. Some of them are drowned ones, however most of them lives the woods, hills and fields.
