I started to build the garden railway in June this year (09) after a gap of nearly 50 years away from railway modelling I had no rolling stock or kit from the past and therefore started with a clean sheet. I went for dcc.and put the base down during June and July and laid the track and wiring during August and September.I have installed points and am about to install a branch to rolling stock and carriage sidings I know that there is a GWR presence at the moment but now have rakes of coaches from all of the regions and need more motive power to match the coaches.and would like a Diesel or two ,funds allowing!.I have had to build inclines due to the levels in the garden but tried to stay within prototype gradients but have had to deal with wheel slip and have had to smooth out a few inclines. There is a lot more to do of course with track laying, adjusting the scenery (gardening) more motive power acquisitions and improving my video skills!.On which note I intend to upload more videos as hopefully more progress is made. Phil

  • Great video, thanks for posting

how do you prevent the rails from rusting?

  • @kenrail100 Hi thanks for the kind comments the rails are nickel-silver and allthough they dont rust they do tarnish but this is not a problem and a very gentle cleaning with rail cleaning blocks soon clears any tarnishing away from the running surface to give a good electrical contact for the locos.I built my railway last year and I hav,nt found any problems caused by the weather in the last twelve months, allthough only time will tell.

  • Very nice Phil!

returning a comment after you visited my vid. I must say Im well impressed with the care you have taken to ensure good rail levels and the neat professional way you built your system..........also very pleased your a 'Western man'!

  • does the track last?

  • need the grass cutting phil

  • Hi,

Can I ask how you build the track, as I'm looking to build my first garden layout.

    David

  • A nice railway you've created there. What DCC system do you use? I use NCE radio on my OO garden line. On a sloping block of land you don't have to have gradients you can keep it level and the ground falling away fools the eye. 5*

  • That looks impressive.I cant wait to get onto mine again.

  • Hey Dad, this looks great. To everyone posting messages it looks great up front, I love the cross over the path as well. Good work Dad, can't wait to see more films..
