Airing on PBS Sunday, Dec. 28 at 8 p.m. (check local listings) the NATURE episode UNFORGETTABLE ELEPHANTS features Martyn Colbeck's stunning film and still photos of African elephants, which he has documented for nearly 20 years. Colbeck earned the trust of a matriarch named Echo and her offspring, and with that trust, privileged glimpses like this scene: the nighttime birth of Echo's calf Ebony, delivered after a 22-month gestation.

there shouldn't elephants in india doing work for humans, or in circusses entertaining them. we're humans- we're capable of entertaining and doing work ourselves. we say we're the smartest and most successful thing on the planet, yet we have animals doing or work and entertaining us. it's shameful. I'm 13 and proud to say that i appreciate the efforts of stever irwin and other people.

Thank you for sharing the miracle of birth! Elephants are very emotional animals and excellent mothers. I totally agree with boycotting any circus that includes animals. They're meant to be with their families, not chained and abused.
