This is a pedagogical experiment in First Year Architectural Design Studio.
The students were asked to examine the history of theatrical technology from the Renaissance up to the present, from Diderot's Encyclopedia in the chapter of theatrical machines to Schlemer's Mechanical Theater at the Bauhaus. Each student drew and abstracted and constructed a single theatrical frame. These were than used in the production of this film. The stage as a mechanism of constructed perceptions of an abstract geometric vocabulary and associated with meanings from the text of the play (the story) is in itself a definition of architecture.
