U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-Texas) today spoke on the Senate floor about her bipartisan bill, Ensuring Pay for Our Military Act of 2011, S. 724, which would assure that military personnel continue to be paid in the event of a government shutdown. Sen. Hutchison's bill has rapidly gained support in the Senate and currently has 49 cosponsors. Sen. Hutchison urged leadership to come to an agreement to prevent a government shutdown, but stressed that a contingency plan must be in place for our service men and women.

  • 14 trillion dollars and the Corporations are still filing bankruptcy and there not hiring.gas prices have hit $4.35 here in some places in Eureka California, the Republicans are right. I'm democrat and agree with them. stop over spending or have a shut down , Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison is right.

  • Senator Hutchison- My fiancée is currently fighting in Afghanistan. I cannot tell you how happy it makes me that you are fighting for us. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. - Jessica Brown

  • um...didn't you vote to put us into all that debt over the last 17 years while you have been in office? Y'all are so great at stumping as if you are fiscal conservatives, then vote for war, after war of fiscally irresponsible spending in what has been a Republican controlled Senate in the last decade.

Cut from the top, change revenue sources (make mega-corporate debtors pay their past due taxes), and stop the never-ending wars for control of oil producing countries and there won't be a problem

  • Should have been thinking about us when all of you decided to start bickering over the budget back in October. Half a friggin year ago. You have had that long to come to an agreement. Don't start saying that we can't do this in the next week when you have had 27 times that long to do so.
