  • Incredible. This footage seems like it is in colour, I did not know that existed so early as I believe he died in 1931. He appears to be in a cafe, possibly in New York City?

  • actually, it is BW and the footage was taken by his publisher Alfred L Knoff as part of documentary title "a publisher is known by the Co. he keeps" I managed to track down the Director/Producers (wife) in NYC who has the original 16mm. sadly no other footage of the great man is on the reel other than the 54 secs we have. I am still searching for more footage that maybe be out there, bound to be others. I hope with sound.

  • I was named after this man, but it is very hard to find out more about him.

especially the meaning of our names. any of you know what "gibran" means?

  • there is some great biographies you can get. not to mention lots of online material. just do a search on Google. good luck

  • He was brilliant. I have read The Prophet over thirty times (I'm sure..) and every time I read, I come away with a different message. His writings were amazing. Makes you wonder what the man was like. Thanks for posting this video.

  • No words need to be spoken or written to describe Him:)

  • @utterboxtv Is there any know Audio recordings of gibran, it would be amazing if we could hear his voice.

  • shu hal music haidi,, bt5awwif

  • @gibranrubio

I don't know, but I can tell you that the "ra" syllable in many names, titles and words refer to something noble; i.e. "most high", as in "Ra" the ancient name for "Sun", the highest object in the sky.

    Examples:

Aaron: the male name meaning 'high mountain'; one source says 'Aaron' was the name of the first High Priest of Israel.

Aryan: a people who regarded themselves as most noble; i.e. 'most high'.

There may--or may not--be a connection; I don't claim to know for sure.

Reading books on Gibran's life, I learned that he was born a Maronite Christian but declared himself a Pagan after reading a certain book. I've never been able to find out the title of that book that converted Gibran to Paganism. If you know, or can find out, please let us all know. Thanks in advance. :)

  • @utterboxtv He is talking but no audio.I have searched for an Audio recording of Gebran but i found nothing, is there any recordings of his voice? that would be so special to listen to, i visited his birth place in Bchari lebanon near the cedar mountains. i visited the house he was born in, i walked in the same steps the he walked when he was young, so now my wish is to hear him and the experiance of Gebran would be complete, thank you for the footage.

  • This clip is as it should be, a veil between us, a glmpse of the past, a fog and not a full hour interview showing and telling all like some of his biograpies. He gave us the fruit but we want to know the tree and the roots. Were lucky to have this, Like someone said "No snow flake falls in the wrong place."

  • is it possible that a man of his stature does not have a sound recording?

  • I know what you mean. I think it's because as odd as it may be, we love these artist, who stir something in us with their works. It's that time has left them still and cold in the past, but to see them move if only slightly, is to feel closer to them, to feel something of their warmth, now theyre not the far away gods of our hearts but as close as a lover. But the clip ends and that moment is like that last kiss of a lover about to depart to a foreign land, all the more bittersweet for it.

  • i have a wave of emotion when i watch this as well..

  • so so tru! we are all so grateful to him for ..he showed the world the tru beauty and very personal uplclose insight of lebanon..u will forever be aninspiration to all human kind,,,,,,,,,,,,,i wish i was around to have meet him.
