@BECHURE As well as the Persian and Seleucid empires, king Pyrrhus also used them a little. Many states tried to use the elephant in battle. there's just something very attractive about using the biggest bloody animal you've ever seen in battle

@ScoTTishN1NJA Easterlings as Persians, Rohirrim as Vikings and Gondorians as Romans are good enough. (Though I'd personally say Easterlings = Turkic peoples, Rohirrim = Anglo-Saxons and Gondorians = Byzantine Empire.) However I don't buy the Hardrim = Talibans theory. They're counterpart of Africans in the book and based on South-Americans and Oceanians in the movies, plus they ride on war elephants. That doesn't strike me as particulary Central Asian.
