I work for a TV station in VA, so after the explosion I did a couple phone interviews as the event made national news. CBS coverage also included as well as some fly over footage done by Miami stations for affiliates.
yes it was scary. we were in an "inside" cabin with no windows. within a couple of seconds of the explosion the electricity went out. while we were struggling to dress in complete darkness we could hear emergency alarms and announcements for "fire brigade to caribbean deck". i kept opening our cabin door to see if there was smoke in the corridor. once we were in our muster station in club international i felt much safer.
We assumed he left CBS because Katie got the CBS Evening News gig. Wonder if CBS would do things different if they could make that decision all over again? My only problem with John was his big hair. I always wanted somebody to pack it down so it wasn't so bushy.
you where on the ship during that was it scary?

I miss seeing John Roberts on CBS. It's a shame he didn't get the Evening News anchor job.
