The album of Hideyo Harada with Lyric Pieces by Edvard Grieg has won her international acclaim and received outstanding reviews in major newspapers as well as in major music magazines including critic's awards like Supersonic Award (Pizzicato, Luxembourg), 10 of 10 points (ClassicsToday.com, US), 5 of 5 points and Recommendation by the editor (klassik.com, Germany). Then in November 2008 she presented her new CD with works by Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninov. In its April issue 2009 Gramophone Magazine awards the recording with a Gramophone recommends. Hideyo Harada was born in Japan and began her musical training in Tokyo with Toyoaki Matsuura. She then came to Europe, to continue studying with Lieselotte Gierth in Stuttgart, as well as with Hans Kann and Roland Keller in Vienna. Hideyo Harada achieved her musical maturity with Victor Merzhanov at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow.
She has received prizes in numerous competitions. In 1984, she won the Geneva International Music Competition (CIEM), in 1991 the 2nd prize at the competition Klaviermusik des 20. Jahrhunderts (piano music of the 20th century) in Vienna, and the 1st prize at the International Schubert Competition in Dortmund. In 1993, she was a prize-winner at the International Rachmaninov Competition in Moscow.
Hideyo Harada is a welcome performer at many festivals and in famous European concert halls. She performed at the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festival, the Braunschweig Classix Festival, the Beethovenfestival Bonn, the Rheingau Music Festival, the Mozart Festival Würzburg, the Heidelberg Spring Festival, the Ludwigsburg Festival, the Festival International des Jeune Solistes in Antibes, the Yokohama International Piano Festival, the Rachmaninoff Festival in Tambov (Russia), the Prague Proms Festival, and the Grand Piano Festival in Amsterdam. At these festivals she enthralled the audience just as she did in her acclaimed performances at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow, the Konzerthaus Berlin, the Gewandhaus Leipzig, at the Alte Oper Frankfurt, the Rudolfinum in Prague, the Victoria Hall in Geneva, the Suntory Hall in Tokyo or the Musikverein in Vienna.
The pianist has played with famous orchestras such as the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, the Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della RAI, the Orchestre de Cannes, the Südwestdeutsche Philharmonie, the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra, the Kurpfälzisches Chamber Orchestra, the Solistes de Bourgogne, the Orchestre de Cannes, the Czech National Symphony Orchestra, the George Enescu Philharmonic Orchestra Bucharest, the Bulgarian State Philharmonic Orchestra, the Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra, the State Symphony Orchestra of Russia, and the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra. Hideyo Harada also tours Japan on a regular basis, where she has played with the NHK Symphony Orchestra, the Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra, and the Japan Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra.
In addition to solo repertoire, Hideyo Harada also performs chamber music. Her partners are, among others, the Borodin Quartet, the violinist Mikhail Simonyan, the cellist Jens Peter Maintz, and the baritone Roman Trekel.
In addition to recordings with important international broadcasting and television companies, she has recorded CDs with works by Schubert, Chopin, Grieg, Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninov, Scriabin, Samuel Feinberg and Michio Mamiya, available on European and Japanese labels.
