Dr Asimov describes the three laws of robotics.
First Law: A robot may not injure a human being, or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
Second Law: A robot must obey the orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
Third Law: A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.
He pronounces the word "robot" like Dr. Zoidberg does. "Robut"

@BlueZipher This is Isaac Asimov, a science fiction writer. He uses science fiction to explore the possibilities of the future and answer philosophical questions for specific cases. This is intended for use in his science fiction.

The amount of prosessing power in an artificial intelligence is the only factor that can limit its capability, right? If so, the 3 laws of robotics is flawed. Cause that would mean that the a.i. can prosess any calculation (especially inacted) to protect itself and humans. That seem to me impossible. No CPU can control that amount of power, let alone have it available at all times. That would mean it can calculate inactions that works far into the future. PM me about this for discussion. Peace!

@pHappyfeet This is the exact premise for the movie I,robot.

@pHappyfeet It's also explained that creating a perfect robot mind that can see all contradictions is impossible. This is basically admitting a robot can't follow the 3 laws perfectly.

@pHappyfeet Actually, robots WOULDN'T control and suppress our self destructive tendencies if it took away our freedom and this was judged to be a BAD thing by us. In The Robots of Dawn it's explained that the newer robots were able to weight things more effectively by judging them quantitatively instead of qualitatively. If both choices cause misery, the robot will choose the one that causes LEAST misery. Mental freeze-out or self-destruction are examples of inaction.

@pHappyfeet That would be idiotic as these are the Laws of Robotics. i.e the law that governs over robotic devices, not humans.
