  • @TacticalBar The way I see it is the colonist started "run n gun"- ing in the late 1700's with muskets as tall as a grown man. If they can do it, you can do it. Haha. The 20" M16 has been in service with the US Military for a LONG time. Many a Solider and Marine have done room clearing procedures with the M16 as well. I wouldn't be too worried about it. Find the barrel/upper you want and get to it. I expect an update too. Good luck!

  • @TacticalBar Don't be scared of the steel barrels. They're just one part of a tool that is the AR15, and they require a little bit more care than a chrome lined barrel. You're right, they're not as durable. If you're worried about the durability you may just want to sway towards the chrome lined. Just figure out what you want to do with the rifle.

  • @TacticalBar Looks like BCM makes the 20" SAM-R uppers which are a steel barrel, and they make the standard 20" uppers which you can get with the gov profile chrome lined barrel. Those SAM-R uppers are looking kinda pricey. If it was me, since I already have a 16" combat gun, and I wanted a 20" AR I personally would go with something like the SAM-R and mount a 3x-10x scope, but that's really just my personal pref.

  • @TacticalBar Well, just keep in mind that the military uses chrome lined 1:7 twist barrels on the 20" M16 rifles, and in the Army I was able to hit man sized targets at 300m with irons sights with no problem. The Marines take that same rifle out to 500m, still using iron sights. In the end it's really up to you. The chrome lined will be a bit less accurate, but it's going to hold up the elements and higher round count better. That's why the military uses it.

  • @TacticalBar What kind of AR are you trying to build? 20" ARs are very nice and probably the best length to run when shooting .223/5.56 if you don't mind the length. If you're going more for a precision AR than a combat gun I would probably steer you away from the chrome lined barrels as they won't be quite as accurate.

  • Sexy setup man....I like the DMR setup more but thats just me, looks like ya got a nice Tan ar over there to :D

  • I wish I had Leupold scopes "just lyin' around"... =(

  • very nice rifle.
