Male and female whirling dervishes in Istanbul.

Istanbul — For more than seven centuries, little changed in the mystic world of whirling dervishes, Muslim men performing the same public rituals in the same swirling monochromatic white robes.
When Istanbul religious leader Hasan Cikar began mixing female dervishes with the men on the public stage, other dervish leaders were outraged. But for Cikar and his followers, the changes were part of a mission to modernize the image of Islam.
They have mastered the art of spinning in place for a long time, then suddenly stopping and not hurling or falling over from dizziness. awesome.

women have as much right to the "connection of God" as men, and all living beings for that matter. It's great to see BOTH men and women participating in this whirling dervish! Really beautiful & serene to watch. peace, DD
