ABC 20/20 investigation with John Stossel takes a look at whether or not college is worth the time and money, or if it's really nothing more than another elaborate scam to get people into debt while creating the false hope of a better job and life.

  • Okay really? yeah we have no jobs because the gov. is spending money on things they dont need to because they dont stand up for themselves so now people go to public sector jobs or somehow feed off the gov. so now because the gov. screwed up stupid people get to freeload off of the gov or someone else's money college is not a waste of money dont you want to feel successful in what you have accomplished? go and learn something! the world is amazing! but some people are too stupid to see it

  • @Kep11KP There are plenty of other ways to feel successful other than going to college, especially when most of what's being learned can be learned elsewhere and be more useful as well. You only learn a fraction of real truth and knowledge in college, but people think once they get a degree they know everything or all they need.. not even close. I've learned far more on my own and far more useful info than anything learned in college in many fields.

  • I used to make $7.50/hr at a restaurant, I went to school, gopt a degree in Computer Science now I make 100K/year, tell me it didn't work...

  • @tonytocanova Same here. I'm a network engineer and make nearly as much too, and sometimes more when doing consulting work. Engineering and some of the sciences are some of the few fields where it actually pays off. Though I got more of my tech education from tech schools at FAR cheaper while getting the same kinds of jobs as those with degrees. But for the vast majority of other fields, it really does not pay today.

  • @tonytocanova You chose a great field, Computer Science, the tech boom is where the money is but, is everyone meant for Computer

    science?

  • @tonytocanova LOL college pays off for the hard sciences. Major in political science? Then you're better off throwing your money on the fucking lottery lol. At least you'll have a chance to strike it rich by throwing it on the lottery lol.

  • #1 tip no matter where you live. Look in your local paper. If you are trying to get a degree and the jobs ads do not show your job then you are hurting yourself.

  • The new hype/Lie is for peopel to get a mad rush in HOSPITAL JOBS. Fact is those new jobs do not have that old high pay and most of the jobs posted are for only the underclass and people from the Filipines who take those jobs and overqualifications=no job for you.

  • Because once you flood the competition to where saturation point is made to make the big bucks then you either raise tution prices or the middle class becomes the new poor. Why should you get a degree in something that will get outsourced. This is forced dumming down the american IQ by not letting them want something that used to pay 60k-80k is now worth now only 45K scrapping the bottom of the barrel. The frezy of tech jobs is dead.

  • Seriously? The woman featured on this video has no skills. She went to college and, "I am looking for a position where I can use the skills I learned in college." is the only thing she can come up with? No wonder she can't get a job!

If she wants to make that college money back, she needs to apply herself.

  • @Spjungen my thoughts exactly

  • @scrambledpenis Rofl yeh, and colleges will be making a run for their money cuz they won't be able to undercut the kids anymore. I'm in college right now, ALL of my friends and their moms hate their classes because of how careless the professors are. Why? They don't get paid to teach. They get paid to do "research," on things like whether chocolate milk or orange juice are better for athletes between games...that's what they're being paid to research.

  • College is fine for the top 20% of students that are motivated and plan and have goals that need a college degree, the rest might be better off doing something else.

  • If i got a degree in human development at a relatively unknown college, I would think college was a waste too. College is definitely worth it... if you know what you are doing. The problem is students these days blindly go into any college thinking it will get them their dream job. If you want to study what you want and its extremely competitive, don't get the degree or study your ass off. Think you can just wing undergrad with an arts and crafts degree and a B average? Good luck after.
