ABC 20/20 investigation with John Stossel takes a look at whether or not college is worth the time and money, or if it's really nothing more than another elaborate scam to get people into debt while creating the false hope of a better job and life.

Harvard study: Hey, maybe we're placing too much emphasis on a college education

it's not that's college is useless, it's just that most degrees are useless. Ask anyone with a comp sci, engineering, tech, or math degree if their degree is useless.

In todays market, a degree can get you some more interviews.. but then so can just having various IT certifications, especially those from Cisco which are some of the only ones that still hold any respect. I've gotten the same jobs as those with degrees in IT without having any degree. Even when I had no certs I still got the same jobs and often had to teach those with degree's what to do on the job more often than not. Focus on specific trades or skills for whatever field you want.

Oh please, grow up. Some college degrees do have value. Doctors, nurses, and engineers all need to receive extensive training at their colleges. You can't just say that college in general is a rip off. That being said, I will admit that most college degrees are WORTHLESS. I don't understand why some morons will even consider getting degrees in anthropology or political science. It's pathetic.

..."grow up"?? WTF kind of an asinine, irrelevant comment is that?! What does maturity have to do with anything I've said.

College IN GENERAL IS a rip off. Of course the medical profession, lawyers or other science degrees are the rare exceptions.. but IN GENERAL as I said, and as YOU even agreed that most college degrees are worthless, are a rip off.

All my high school teachers said, "Employers don't care what you have a degree in as long as you have a degree." Lies, lies, all lies. Their degrees worked out for them, but that doesn't mean all degrees will. Unless you want to be a nurse, doctor, lawyer, or teacher, there is no reason to go to a 4-year college.

P.S. At least I aggressively paid off my student loans because I refuse to be in debt.

YEP! Total waste. I have a BA and am a factory worker. A high school drop out can do the work I do. I actually think being blue collar is awesome but I want to be a blue collar worker with technical skills. I don't mind physical labor but I also want to use my mind. Trade school is definitely the way to go!

my associates degree in computer programming has worked out just fine. two years, very little debt and i have an incredible job to show for it. wow, i sound like an itt commercial. if you're going to go to college, think about what you're going in for and how useful it can really be after you're done.

College is good for one thing, and one thing only: Getting a job from the government or contractors.

Anyone should think long and hard before putting in that much money (and more importantly, Time that you can't get back.)

I wouldn't even say doctors and nurses: Look what they have to do to Get qualified. They could still learn on the job. (Which most new medical professionals have to do anyway, it just that schools have you pay them to learn while they temp you out).

Anyway, for what you're paying, with there being more colleges now than ever, as well as modern technology And more degrees then ever? College Is a rip off, even if you think your degree is good.
