while watching this video, all i could think....those who are not wise to or ignore history, will cause all to repeat it. I'd like to think this guy is just cherry picking to prove his point, but i actually remember a lot of this stuff from 6th grade social studies.....which i always hates SS and History, but now i realize how useful it is to us on a broader grander scale.

@sylverdrag I believe in freedom so that's why I will defend my position on believing in a Republic. "But can we keep one" is of no concern to me. Why ponder if we can keep one while you can spend more of your time defending one. Unless you believe in imposing what the majority prefers (remember you have to be consistent if you believe this, no matter even if the majority rules against your favor. No switching to republic because its convenient for you then). Freedom=Republic

@sylverdrag I guess the answer to that question is up to us now isnt it? Another good Question could be what as human social creations or creatures should we fight for. Our Freedoms? or Our Preferences? (do remember that one mans preference is another mans dislike). Or how about the question what should we impose on our fellow human creations or creatures to better the interests of the whole?

@sylverdrag the responsibility lies with the people.. and with Liberty... and our Creator
The founding Fathers knew this from the beginning..
He is the beginning,, and He is the end..
Failure of America = Failure of Man

Bad documentary. Firstly, yes the world republic does come from the latin word res publica, meaning "thing" or "affair." Meaning "public affair" or public thing. That "thing" is not the "law" as this documentary claims. Politics is that very "public affair." Politics not for the elite or few. 2.)What usually characterizes a republic is that power is given to representatives by the people and not through inherent birthrights. This process if democratic!

It is a republic elected democraticly

this is a very educational video thanks ! we need more

A republic is still a form of democracy, and therefore, it is doomed to fail.

@DannyG1533 I need more proof than a quote from a piece of commie propaganda. & more than a person who doesn't know what the terms democracy & republic mean can provide.

@smeyerson Uh, huh, that's the theory. Let me know when it happens.
Nice video, but actually, so far as can be seen from the video, there does not seem to be such a thing as a stable form of government.
This video rightly point out that anarchy, monarchy and Democracy are transient state of government. However, it fails to realize that Republics don't endure either, unfortunately.
History shows that republics usually end up collapsing into oligarchies, which eventually prompts revolt... it's one big circle.
Republics sound good, but can we keep one?

James Madison defined republic in terms of "representative democracy" as opposed to direct democracy, and this usage is "still employed ..."

The "Father of the Constitution," he was the principal author of the document. In 1788, he wrote over a third of the Federalist Papers, still the most influential commentary on the Constitution.
