A Veterans Day 2008 memory to the men of a PB4Y that wouldn't make it home one night. Captain Ward "Jack" Williams Junior of Waterloo, Iowa, was among the thirteen who died 19-May-1944 when their aircraft went down.

Videographed prior to the 2005 season, this is the Collings Foundation's B-24 in its "Dragon And His Tail" paint scheme.

  • does the info mean the b-24 has a crew of 13?

  • No, the B-24 had a crew of 7 to 10.

With no bomb load, the plane could take extra passengers so it had an on-board crew of 3 plus 10 guests.

  • The US Navy VPB squadron PB4Y-2As had a crew of 11.

  • VPB-122 lost 25 personnel including crew #17( except my uncle who was medically grounded) on November 30,1945 while flyIing a PB4Y-2A from NAS Kodiak to NAS Seattle.Quite a plane.

  • @logan6298 I`d be interested to know who your Great Uncle was, I have been researching this and other Squadrons from Dunkeswell for about 15 years, your Uncle must have been on Tony Lucas` PB4Y-1 that crashed into a hill at Steeperton Tor on 3 Dec 43. I am about to publish a book of memoirs about Dunkeswell from many who served there, be good to include a photo and a little bit about him in the losses section, please private message me and I`ll get in touch by e-mail. Many thanks. Dave

  • My father restored 4 500lbs Bombs, a Norden Bombsight, and the 2 pilot seats for this aircraft :D

  • This was her paint scheme -- Dragon and his tail -- when I first flew in her in 2002. On my next flights in her in 2009 she was (is) Witchcraft. I miss her as 'Dragon' sometimes, so it is awesome to be able to see her again in this great video.
