@windstorm1000 Chereau is a French director. But I can't agree more on that one : it's the most horrible ring I've ever seen, just boring and uninspired. Karl Marx is not like potatoe, you can't put a marxist rendition on everything ...
Chereau is trash. He should have been run out of town on a rail. He started these Frankenstein techno directors who are ruining the scenic design of the beautiful Ring. Chereau turned it into a factory & Boulez was his willing lackey. The 'freshness' of their ideas--that English director is an ideot!! How could Wolfgang allow this-???they don't need new converts to the Ring--it was perfect in the first place! The conceit of these people!! Wagner and Cosima must be turning in their graves.
I was there in 1976 - it was marvelous - the audience reaction was wild - fistfights, booing, cheering - all very exciting. I spoke with Chereau about this a few months ago - he was stunned by the reaction but Wolfgang Wagner supported him and by 1980 it was a big success.
thank you so much to share this marvelous production on film - we all enjoyed it even years after in cinema again - endlessly bravo!!!!
