U.S. Sen. Al Franken (DFL-MN.) says extending tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans while failing to continue the unemployment insurance program is misguided, especially during the holiday season. "The choice before us is clear this holiday season—lend a hand to those who simply can't get by without the help, or give $100,000 in average tax cuts to people making over a million dollars," said Sen. Franken in his speech on the Senate Floor

  • Al Franken was amazing as a comedian! He is even more impressive as a government leader! I did wonder even when he was on Saturday Night Live, why he bothered to get a law degree. Now, he is putting his knowledge to use, serving the American people!!

  • Our forefathers had grave concerns that the wealth in the country not be concentrated into the hands of the few.

Today only 10% of the population has 80% of the country's financial wealtth AND IT'S BECOMING WORSE - MOVING TO 90%.

  • That's a really good point that I never realized about "small businesses". Republicans are referring to $100 billion "small businesses" being hurt by taxes returning to pre-Bush levels.

  • Senator, you Rock................

  • @bigtwo1952 Now there is an intelligent comment. Hmm, a commie I have to wonder just how one comes up with such a ridiculous statement. Perhaps they've listened to right-wing talk radio and are brainwashed. In that case, they get a pass because obviously they can't think for themselves. Another possibility they are just plain angry. One can only feel sorry for this bitter, unhappy malcontent who without even knowing someone can come up with these negative, downright mean, and ugly comments.

  • @TomThumbsFables I don't think it matters who we vote for. The Democrats are not much better. They've ALL sold out to the corporations and the power elite. It's time to throw everyone out and start from scratch. We the people have to take back our country from the corporations who have, over the last 30 years, taken over completely.

  • @booogiemann, you're right. For the most part, Democrats..Republicans...all the same: Elitists! There is only one party: The rich party. The only difference is that the GOP aren't afraid to act like the douchebags that they are, whereas most of the Democrats either mask their agenda, or cower to the GOP.

  • Al Franken is was heck of a politician, comedian and the joke is on the Republicans, keep up the good work AL.

  • despite all the evidence you think she "might" be right? GOP are not only for the rich, they are for harming the middle class and poor at the expense of the rich. Forget cheap health care, forget cheap anything, because "cheap" is socialism...they let non-competitive businesses decide what to charge your ass.

  • My Grandmother always said that the Republicans are for the rich and the Democrats are for the working person and the poor and I think that she is right.
