Another tutorial from http://www.curiousturtle.com, this time showing a great technique to speed up rotoscoping using Mocha & After Effects

In this final part of the tutorial, we take our roto shapes back into After Effects to complete the effect. Using mochaShape we can make changes to our rotoscope in Mocha and bring it back into After Effects without rendering.

  • Cool. I wonder if this can be done with Syntheyes, export trackers to Blender, create meshes that follow the trackers, then composite the matte made from the render. Maybe need a bit of Python thrown in there.

  • @onjoFilms That's definitely a valid way to do it for the machinery, not for the girl of course. In fact, you'd have to mask out the girl to get a workable result in Syntheyes.

For this particular project that would be overkill, but for 2D->3D conversion, that would be cool.

    Thanks for the good comment.

  • is mocha actually better than silouette?

  • Silhouette has some tools that Mocha doesn't have, but I personally choose Mocha over Silhouette for pretty much all my work.

The planar tracking is just too important a tool.
