Apparently, Ed Wood toured for a while in his earlier days with a circus side show as one of the freaks. He played The Bearded Lady and the mutated freak, showing his mangled leg injured in WWII. This scene of him belly dancing may be derived from that.

I sincerely love the way they filmed these scenes, the kitschy dramatic moments done with the cinematic flair, just like in the movies ;)
