The Bongos were 'surprise guests" at the after-party at City Winery in NYC for the R.E.M Tribute at Carnegie Hall on March 11th, 2009. They kicked off the party with an electrifying eight-song set and then enjoyed a warm reunion with their old pals R.E.M. and many others, including the Feelies and Apples In Stereo. Several of the songs from the Bongos set--including their tribute to Randy Bewley, lead guitarist of the Athens GA based band, Pylon--were filmed by Nora Giananni.
Rita Houston from WFUV describes the evening: "A great night at Carnegie Hall honoring the music of REM and the added bonus of REM being in the house! That brought an electricity to the audience and Im sure an extra dose of nerves to all the performers. Myself included, as I was the house announcer introducing all the bands and was kinda freaked that REM was hearing them all. But it was all good. I had quite the perch in the wings, side stage, from which to take it all in. The camaraderie among the artists was beautiful to witness. Don Dixon talking to Marshall Crenshaw, Mike Mills praising the Calexico bass player, and EVERYONE grooving to The Feelies.
The after party at City Winery was awesome with all the artists, including REM hanging out. The BONGOS played! Then many of the artists jumped on stage at City Winery. I had some pasta with Dar Williams, talked life with Rachel Yamagata, hugged Don Dixon and shared some laughs with Glen Hansard. Very cool."

Well, the simpe fact that people and bands still cover Bolan shows that T-Rex is one of those classic acts. And the classics will live as long as people play, listen and discuss them:)

For the oddballs who don't like this and would prefer that T-Rex was at this concert in 2009: how would that have happened? Bolan is dead. As are your reasoning abilities. This is pretty good and pretty redolent of the original, in fact, and pretty good for a live recording like this. I bet the crowd liked in Carnegie Hall. And a recording exists. There are a million songs in youtube, if you don't like it, move on, nothing here, move on down the road, buster...
