turns the ratio to 1 turns on the pulley to 5 turns on the motor for more

Was the motor by the large gear/wheel from the (same) vcr also? This wouuld be good for a small wind-electric generator if a bladed turbine can abe attached to collect the wind energy.

you can get these small dc motors in just about anything that moves and requires batterys. cd/dvd players, toy cars, a real good motor comes out of a remote contol car, youcan also rewire them with smaller wire to get a higher voltage

ok, but maby I asked the wrong question, I meant to ask if one of those motors was from a vcr? Printers and scanners have stepper motors that are good for generating some electricity.

larger stepper motors produce a voltage. If you hook a speaker or even a LED to the leads you can make sort of a signal generator.
