Not sure what The Baron's real name or claim to fame is, but I do remember that I received this CD from South Africa somewhere around 1996. To be honest, I have totally forgotten about it until I started searching amongst my old stuff for "Wie het die sjeef by die koffie gegooi?" (Who put the poison in the coffee?). That song was written by Fanus Rautenbach as a joke after the Finnish politician Martti Ahtisaari visited South Africa during the late 1970s and complained that someone had tried to poison him.
Mind you, Ahtisaari might have had a point. According to a hearing in September 2000 of the South African Truth and Reconciliation Commission, two CCB operatives (Kobus le Roux and Ferdinand Barnard) were tasked not to kill Ahtisaari, but to give him "a good hiding". To carry out the assault, Barnard had planned to use the grip handle of a metal saw as a knuckleduster. In the event, Ahtisaari did not attend the meeting at the Keetmanshoop Hotel, where Le Roux and Barnard lay in wait for him, and thus Ahtisaari escaped injury.

Since my search for that song was unsuccessful (thus far), I remembered that the tune was based upon another old favorite I grew up with -- "Die Bokke se Klok". I do not know the history of the original song, but here then is Die Baron's version.
Had to come back and listen to this song yet again!
