In this episode, Lucas is injured while he and Mark are crossing a dessert. Earlier, they lost their wagon and a horse when a rattlesnake spooked the horses. They lost their other horse during a dust storm. Finally, a rock falls on Lucas's foot, severly injuring it to the point where he can hardly walk. Lucas has to come to a tough decision. He must seen his 12 year old son across the desert alone to get help with the knowledge that he won't survive. What would we do in a simular circumstance? Would we be able to say goodbye to our child and allow them to take such a dangerous trek alone, knowing that it's the only chance he has to survive?

Back then, when Television was in it's infancy, the people who wrote, produced, and created network television were coming in from working on motion pictures. People with experience who payed their dues and were qualified. They were'nt kids right out of school who got an "A" on their final project and thought they were film makers. Yeah, there are exceptions, but todays TV is written and produced by hacks. They couldn't produce a show with this much "heart" if they tried.

The true love between a father and son. I know it's just a show but it really resonates. Their relationship is wonderful.

This is the kind of drama we should see now. None of the sex and violence which passes for entertainment today.
