Delaware County String Band recording of "The Fightin' Phils" transferred by TechnerVideo from a 78 record. Song written by bandleader Elliot Lawrence and arranger Bix Reichner. It sold over 5,000 copies during the 1950 season. The recording was intended to be strictly a publicity stunt and the Elliot Lawrence band never actually recorded the song. If I am not mistaken, this is the only recording of the song ever made. The video is a home movie of the Elliot Lawrence band at Shibe Park for the opening game of the 1950 World Series. This film shows the band waiting for the game to start, the band performing their version of the "Fightin' Phils" and segments of the actual game. Members of the band watch the game from the stands. My father Joe Techner plays the trumpet at 00:51 and waves at the camera at 00:36. Film transferred from original 8mm film by TechnerVideo. Music record transferred by TechnerVideo from original 78 disc using a chronological equalizer.
The players forgot the words to this song in the 2009, 2010 and 2011 post season series.

You will not believe this, but I have hummed this thing many times throughout the years. I was eleven years old in 1950 and remember just about everything from that magical year. Hell, I even remember Milo Candini holding out the following year saying he was unbeaten in 1950. Yeah, he was 1 - 0. Needless to say, Ole Bob Carpenter wasn't having much of that. Thanks for this post.. I really appreciate it.
