In 1917, only 14 years after the Wright brothers, this highly successful high performance FighterBomber really was a wonder of its time in the progress of military aviation.
In 1919 its successful deployment against Afghan Jehadists (some things have not changed) saved the RAF from postwar disbandment by proving the value of the Air Force in Imperial service. It continued as a front line RAF weapon until the end of the 1920's.
