The sun was shining on a lucky postcode in the North East of England this week as postcode NE6 2JA, Cullercoats Street in Newcastle, was selected as the winning postcode in the People's Postcode Lottery. Four residents of the street had a ticket and won £7,500 each!

First to hear the news was Mrs Houchin, who has been playing the Peoples Postcode Lottery for 2 years. She said of the win: "Its brilliant news. We are redecorating at the moment so some of the money can go on home improvements Id like a new bathroom!"

The People's Postcode Lottery slogan of winning with your neighbours never rang more true - the next visit on street prize presenters Judie McCourts tour was neighbour Alan Strong!

The winner's daughters Hayley and grandson Sonny were on hand to receive the cheque on Alan's behalf. "Hell be over the moon," Hayley said of her Dad's win. "I dont play at the moment but Im going to join now!"

The third ticket holder in the winning postcode was Sarah Ord, who has been playing the Peoples Postcode Lottery for 10 months after her brother-in-law became a winner. She exclaimed: "I cant believe it! Its such a lot of money! We have 5 children, so its going to be great to be able to enjoy spending the money on them, especially as its half term."

The last stop for the Street Prize team was to Edward Davidson, a short way up the road. His wife Fiona welcomed the street prize team on his behalf. She said: "That is absolutely lovely. Weve been playing since the beginning, so to win is fantastic."

Edward plays with an online subscription which Fiona describes as "so straightforward and easy". Since hearing of the win, many of his family have been asking how to play, and Fiona has been guiding them to sign up online, at www.postcodelottery.com.

In total, £30,000 was shared out between four residents of Cullercoats Street in the weekly street prize, and a further 73 winners in the area shared the £5,000 Postcode Sector Prize.
