Shih Tzu: Romeo & Sissey Mating!

I was checking my email this morning when I heard this strange yelping sound coming from our bedroom. I walk in(now keep in mind, I have never seen two dogs actually "mate" before); and see Romeo and Sissey standing at an about-face position. I'm thinking I must have interrupted them playing so I bend down to pet them on their heads and Romeo ran under the bed....at least he thought he was. While he was scurrying underneath the bed I noticed Sissey's body being dragged, too, from behind so I get down on my knees to further investigate the situation and low and behold, they were stuck. I mean "stuck stuck". After researching and seeking advice, I now know that this may be the first day of Sissey's pregnancy! Wow.

They were stuck for about 30 minutes. He'd been trying to mount her unsuccessfully all that morning. I just happened to turn around after hearing Sissey yelp and then I got out my camera.

Our Shih Tzu is having puppies as I type this. So far, 2 boys and 1 girl. Both are beautiful. Will post pictures and videos later in the day.

She had 5 puppies. They were every color you could imagine.  All very healthy.

@lilau090 never ever try to unstick them. that is the time when nature is making sure that the male's sperm makes it to the eggs. If you twist them about you can injure your females insides as well as your boy's penis. i'm excited, it happened yesterday, i'm going to be staring at sophie until she has pup, lol.

The exact thing happened to my sophie and coco yesterday morning. i've been scouring the web ever since. there is so much info and a lot of it is conflicting. i, too, have the understanding that if they became locked that it was a *done deal* so to speak, its her first time, i'm not selling them, want to keep them, so i'm trying to keep coco off of her, i'm going insane. lol. do you know if each *time* results in a pup? I just want to make sure that we have two.and not stress her out.. Congrats!

lilau090 Dogs can be tied together in the mating knot for from a few minutes to even close to an hour. The only reason they get stuck is because once the male dog's penis gets in the female's vagina, he ejaculates and while doing so, his penis really swells up and he gets locked in her vagina. And it takes awhile for his swelling in his penis to go down. He doesn't get hurt from the swelling though. It just helps to get his semen/sperm to the eggs expelled.
