Yes, we're usually closed on Mondays but here a very worthwhile and heartfelt exception. Skipper's extended family was dealt a major blow with the passing of Craig Van Tilbury in the early hours of Friday, August 13th, 2010. A fantastic guitarist, master chess player (seriously - the guy was internationally ranked) and doting father, Craig was the longtime love of Annie "Frieght Train Annie" Waddey, onetime Skipper's bartendress and hostess of the now-defunt Annie's Girlie Show. A gentle man with a keen intellect and a sharp wit, Craig was/is loved as much for his even-keeled demeanor as for his enviable chops on the guitar by a huge cross-section of Tampa Bay's musical community. Many of these folks are gathering this evening to remember this one-of-a-kind individual as well asto raise funds to ensure a stable future for his young daughter Annabelle. A number of acts are groups Craig performed with including Do it Again, a Steely Dan tribute, and Joey Dee and the Starlighters. Several others are performing material that was among Craig's favorites; for example, The Beauvilles will be playing a set of Yardbirds tunes and the evening will be capped with a never-before-seen onstage collaboration of four of the area's finest axemen - Damon Fowler, Ed Wright, Jimmy Griswold, Sean Chambers - playing a selection of tunes by Roy Buchanan, Peter Green, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Eric Clapton. Miss Julie from WMNF with be running the raffles and a silent auction while the good folks from Green Shift Music will conduct a Musician's Yard Sale consisting of some of the music gear Craig accumulated over a lifetime of performing.
