Need a song to help your kiddos remember 10's and 1's place value. This fun little tune will help your students grasp this concept in no time. Good luck! Get silly! Head to www.teachertipster.com for more songs like this one!

  • I must be totally dyslexic...lol...But in Math, don't you teach the kids (whether it's addition or subtraction) that the "ones" are counted first and then the "tens" ?! (I'm not hating, just a semi unfounded observation on my part.)

  • @mrob75 Not always...some new research is actually encouraging kiddos to find many ways to answer a certain problem. So, It's a good idea for students to feel comfortable with skip counting and place value. This only helps them understand the process of adding and subtracting even better later. If they can group 10's and 1's fluently...they'll be able to work more comfortably with addition (no regrouping or regrouping...borrowing or not). They can do it the "old" way or many new ways.

  • @teachertipster So, 57+25...is actually 70+12...82! We can figure it out by using our understanding of 10's and 1's. Some kids like doing it the "old fashioned" way. Others like drawing a picture. Some use a hundreds chart. Or a number line. It's good to show kiddos that there are a LOT of ways to come up with the correct answer. :)

  • I am a student teacher and am going to use this song with my first graders tomorrow I will let you know how it goes. My CT thinks I can not do this with a straight face, I am kind of a practical joker so we will see :)

  • @terajoyc you can do it!

  • Thanks guys! Hope the Army Song comes in handy in your classes. Let me know how it works out for you! :)

  • You are absolutely adorable! I teach 3rd grade and think my kiddos would get a kick out of it. I just need to tweak it a bit to get up into the 10,000s.
