==================

Behold Fort Atkinson, a city with history old
Awakened new from the winter cold
It blossoms forth, it's contents no longer held back
Emptying out...art, and stuff like that.

Books filled with words move our hearts and imagination
And dance moves our bodies away from stagnation

In great halls the years of old are stored
While the young are taught their freedom of expression...while trying not to be bored

Movies are made to uplift the spirit and soul
While others enjoy theater with a dinner and show

The dead are honored with grand stone monuments
The living gather to listen to jazz and eat fish with condiments

Proudly the band plays, brass blazing from within
While forms of men and women listen, again and again

Bridges are designed for elegance, yet hold weight by the tons
Our very bodies become the canvas, for looks and for fun

Paths are built to make us feel the wind, better than any bus
And what simpler beauty is there, but the nature around us?

Grand churches are built to strengthen our minds
While stories of heroes make us want to fight for mankind

Horizons are expanded, with new cultures sharing a different view
And one need not go far for tools to create something new

While apparent Fort is blessed with muses kiss
All can see that something is amiss
Nothing holds it together, creativity running wild
And so it comes forth to guide this growing child

The Art Council cometh to open community's eyes
To be revitalized with energy much to all's surprise
Seeking to join poets and dreamers
painters, writers, musicians, and filmers

Come in May and profess your voice
Perspectives of all to make the right choice
Our goal to open your sights beyond the skies
To move this community, to revolutionize

Be there or be square.

  • Hey, did you write that?

  • Yes I did, though I don't really think poetry is my forte. I get flukes now and then though. ;)

  • No fair! My hometown needs some of those too!

  • Well, Madison DOES have that giant monolith pile of footballs, right? Don't know if you're really native to Madison though, but all the same... ;)

  • Well done! Favorite part was when you looked back at the school and then turned back and said "while try not to be bored". Say how did Fort get all those statues?

  • To be honest, I don't know. Donated? Bought and paid for? I'm pretty sure they are all the same artist, but other than that... *shrugs*
