I absolutely love this peice. Not to take anything away from Richter (my god you couldnt if you wanted )but if you ever get the chance try to find Yuri Rozum's rendition of this beautiful Rachmaninoff piece. The first time I heard Prelude in D Major, it was from him...so I might be a bit biased..but after hearing many others since, I still maintain that his and Richter's are tied for the best.

@musiclassic1 Have you ever heard Yuri Rozam's interpretation? I think that his and Richter are tied for the best.

Wow, I just got this Rachmaninoff Prelude to be my new Ringtone. I can't get enough of it. It is hauntingly beautiful!

I'm an 18 year old male, and this song made me cry... no joke.

the soft soaring way he approaches the volume of those high notes is remarkable

rach definitely got all of the bitches with the part at 2:37

I love it when contrapuntal textures mix with romantic pieces and the fact that this piece is nocturne-like makes it that much better.
Rachmaninoff you genius, I wish I could study with you.

@Archacki2004 I prefer zimermans slightly, but this one is very awesome too yeah

That is the best interpretation of this piece I've ever heard. It has all the warmth and heartache and no need to rush as many feel they ought to.
This is by far my favourite recording of this piece. In my opinion, it's perfect...
