Barnaby Jones is a television detective series which ran on CBS from 1973 to 1980. It starred Buddy Ebsen as a retired private investigator who worked with his widowed daughter-in-law Betty (Lee Meriwether), at first to solve the murder of his son and her husband. The two decided that they worked together so well, that they continued to keep the detective agency open. Jones was unusual, because counter to the stereotypical detective, he was a non-drinker, ordering and drinking milk in restaurants and bars.

  • @PizzaDinosaur Kreese himself. Probably swept Barnaby's leg

  • My grandparents watched this on CBS during the 1970s!! The theme would wake me up at night hearing the theme going. This specific theme from 1978 goes at a much more gradual speed than most of the other seasons' themes. Quinn Martin was a great Executive Producer!!! Most of today's producers do not have what it takes to produce great quality and quantity TV series. The acting was much better as well.

  • I was born in 63....back then they were true moviestars! Not like the crap today! Best tv shows growing up in late 60s-70s.Even the food tasted better!

  • My grandmother use to love this show back in the '70s!

  • I always thought they should have had an episode with Raymond Bailey in it as the criminal. For those of you who don't know who Raymond Bailey was, he was the guy who played the semi crooked banker, Drysdale on Buddy Ebsen's other famous TV series, The Beverly Hillbillies.

  • Growing up, my parents watched Barnaby Jones. Being a kid, the only thing I enjoyed about it was this cool theme...and Lee Meriwether.

As of 11/7/11, three people were not Jonesin'.

  • "...and also staring Catwoman....."

  • @fromthesidelines Thanks for that bit of trivia... I was curious to who the announcer was & google search led me to your comment. thanks for taking the time to add that info.

  • Marty Kove?!

  • @wheresthebeeph God you took the words right out of my mouth. This use to play late at night on Sunday nights when I was growing up. It would come on rigth after Friday the 13th the series on NBC. I didn't have a tv in my room so I'd make up an excuse to sleep in my mom's room and when she fell a sleep I'd turn the tv to this. I too miss this time in life. Everything was so much simpler then. It's times like this that make me wish that there was a time machine.
