www.pafl.com.ph - For the prelude to the 2009 AFL Grand Final lunch, we had Ang Christou the former Carlton premiership player, and Angelo Lekkas, the former Hawthorn champion gracing the confines of the Manila Polo Club for the fifth Grand Final Eve night match. As tradition has dictated, we pretty much left it to the legends as to what level of participation they would like, which is usually either playing, coaching or umpiring. However, these two stars, still relatively young and also very good mates, couldnt wait to slip into the playing kit and get out there for a good hard crack at each other. Both players put on an excellent show and provided all of those fortunate enough to be there with a very entertaining display mixed with skill, and good ole fashioned Greek/Aussie piss-taking.

The game was played in what turned out to be the wettest 24 hour rain deluge seen in Manila for 42 years with 341mm of rain being dumped from the heavens. Although only a "tropical storm" whilst over Manila, the storm became a typhoon and ended up killing several hundred people in the Philippines, Vietnam and Cambodia. Needless to say, the game was a very slippery, but entertaining scrap in the wet. Considering the terrible playing conditions, we had an excellent turnout with 11 players per side and many more screaming from the sidelines undercover. With Christou playing for the Eurekas and Lekkas for the Dingoes, everyone was fired up for a big game. It was a see-sawing game with the Eurekas coming back hard from a 24 point half time deficit however, with PAFLs most notorious trophy hunter in CJ bagging 6 goals, the Dingoes held on to win comfortably by 28 points. Final scores:

Dingoes: 2.5, 5.6, 7.10, 12.15 (87)

Eurekas: 0.3, 1.6, 5.8, 8.11 (59)

As usual, the BBQ was fired up after the game, and the beer and wine flowed as we all relaxed and enjoyed the company of the legends and the PAFL circle of friends as a prelude to the biggest day on the Australian sporting calendar.
