  • I'm going to be staining my deck with a solid stain. oil or water based I'm not sure yet. My question is, will i need to use a primer for solid stains? I was told that solid stains whether it be oil or water based. will not soak into the wood and that's why you need a primer. also can you put two coats on a solid base stain water based or oil?

You would want to read the specific instructions for the product you choose, but most solid stains are self priming. A specialized primer may be required for some special circumstances or problem surfaces.

We like Enduradeck from California Coatings, or Sikkens Rubbol Solid DEK when a solid is called for. Personally, we like the natural translucent look of One TIME for most wood care .
