New, improved version of backpacking stove I have been working on for the past year. Made for under $2 using 1 quart paint can, inner soup can, third can for pot support. Boils 1 pint of H20 in 8 minutes, 45 seconds at 17 degrees air temp.

  • The stove fits in the pot. Diameter is OK, but the height is just a bit over the top of the pot. I keep them in a cordura sack, keeps the soot off gear in the pack and allows me to store some tinder in the bag as well.

  • This stove boils a quart of water on every load, without adding wood.

  • Question!

I made this stove and it works OK .. but I get a lot of soot and about 1 1/2" of unburnt wood after the burn .. I guess it is charcoal, but I thought there wood be very little ash left.

  • impressive.

  • @farinasa - thanks for the follow-up. This is an awesome stove! I need to get off my a$# and make one, thanks for the tips on just how to.

  • @TheBgcheez Thats why you make them yourself as he did.

  • The Argau Camping Toasters would be a great accessory

  • They work well, don't they? I'm on my third design and I love em. I'm finding putting bolts or screws through the body helps them stay in one piece as they age with usage. Thanks for sharing.

  • Looks like its quite effient at burning and heating your water. Now throw in some food and go back inside when its done.

  • $141 lol much better stoves on the market for this price I think.

  • Nice looking stove and great blog post. I see a regular looking wood burning flame so I have to ask; is this a wood gas stove or a wood burning stove? I'm looking for a clean burning wood gasification stove but keep finding ones that seem to create soot. Does this burn reasonably clean?
