With white people or people of european ethnicities in the USA it depends. If you only talk about americans of Dutch, German and Scandinavian ancestry than you are right. They are at or close to african americans in height. But whites include all European people living in america or the total white population added together is not that tall. From my unscientific observation 30% are 5'7" or shorter, 50% in the 5'8" to 6'1" range and 20% at 6'2" or taller and only 1% at 6'6" or taller.

The true part about americans are with the african american population. There are plenty of short blacks in america with poverty on the high side for many blacks but black people are the tallest americans. From what I see about 20% of black men are 5'7" or shorter. But black men are mostly 6'0" or taller. From my observation about 40% are 6'2" or taller and 10% are very tall which means 6'6" or taller. Wikipedia has them the same height or slightly shorter than whites but that is bullshit.

True or false about the USA. The Japanese may find americans short if they visit the southwestern states where the majority of americans are mexican and most mexican men are 5'4" or shorter. Most other latinos living in america such as Puerto Ricans, Cubans etc. the men are 5'7" or shorter. The asian populations living in america are mostly on the short side especially the southeast asians. The korean americans have a noticable amount of tall and average height people however.
