What Night Is This?

What night is this so long and drear
When all good folk would gather near
To light their pyres, the Solstice fires
And tend the blaze till morning.

All, all of nature sing
As the days grow long, so comes the Spring.
All hail our Lord, the Sun,
The babe of our blessed Lady.

So build the fires strong and high
The wind will be His lullaby
Returning king, of thee we sing
Watching the Yule log burning.

All, all of nature sing
As the days grow long, so comes the Spring.
All hail our Lord, the Sun,
The babe of our blessed Lady.

Come join me by the Yuletide flame
To call our Lord by His holy name.
By fire bright, invoke His light
Keeping watch till dawning

All, all of nature sing
As the days grow long, so comes the Spring.
All hail our Lord, the Sun,
The babe of our blessed Lady.

  • @KaterinaElHaj I'm surprised that you say that no one in the UK knows the version I speak of since it's English history. William Chatterton Dix is from Bristol England. A writer of Hymns and carols.

  • @Paedobaptism Really? He is english? Wow. I have got so much grief from my english cousins over 'what child is this?' LOL Wait till I see them again!! LOL Thanks for that!

  • @bombygriz There are many, many Pagan artists who create faith-inspired music, for all the Sabbats as well as many gods, goddesses, archetypes, myths, and so forth. Just search for "Pagan music/songs" and you'll find a treasure trove. Be sure to check out Damh the Bard and Loreena McKennitt. I also recommend Emerald Rose, Inkubus Sukkubus (if you're into rock), Cruachan (if you're into metal), and Chalice and Blade. Also check out the YT channel KeepMusicPagan. Blessed Be. :)

  • I'm a bit late to the Yule party... but as an eclectic teen still under the shadow of parental prejudice, I had no idea there were Pagan carols! This is awesome! :)

  • This is such a beautiful song. Love your voice!

  • @KaterinaElHaj Many, many pieces of music...and traditions have been covered and changed by Christianity. Good on you to return some to it's origins. Blessed be!

  • Thank you so much.

  • @Vierotchka yes it does yule is about finding hope in a time that is dark.being able to rejoys that the god has been born to us from the goddess, on the longest night we celelbrate that there is hope that he will literaly bring us light and warmth. this song is exactly what yul means

  • Love it! Thank you

  • Always have loved the haunting tune of Greensleeves, originally written by none other than King Edward the Eighth!

  • sorry thats where you are wrong, every song that has something to do with the winter solstice DOES has something to do with it, if you do not like the song nor it's wonderfully made song than do not listen to it, i am Pagan even I know this it has to do with it, shows respect and greatful for all things in life and Nature, simple as that. us humans take so many things for granted.....

  • Love this...Love our Holy Mother and this so speaks to Her. Thanks.
