I got to know this through a 1973 Brian Ferry album of the same name. A classy song.

Oh will you never let me be
Oh will you never set me free
The ties that bound us, are still around us
There's no escape that I can see
And still those little things remain
That bring me happiness or pain

A cigarette that bears a lipstick's traces
An airline ticket to romantic places
And still my heart has wings
These foolish things remind me of you

A tinkling piano in the next apartment
Those stumbling words that told you
What my heart meant
A fairground's faded swings
These foolish things remind me of you You came, you saw, you conquered me
When you did that to me
I somehow knew that this had to be

Those winds of March
That make my heart a dancer
A telephone that rings, but who's to answer?
Oh, how the ghost of you clings
These foolish things remind me of you

How strange, how sweet, to find you still
These things are dear to me
They seem to bring you so near to me

The sigh of midnight trains in empty stations
Silk stockings thrown aside, dance invitations
Oh, how the ghost of you clings
These foolish things remind me of you

  • G'man you really hit the spot when you do the standards. I'm hearing Frankie crooning away as you sing. A classy performance with all the control and poise of the great man himself and he didn't have a guitar to contend with. Great choice. Loving your work my friend.

  • Hello there, Nav. Thanks very much indeed for these kind words though I think I need to move away from the crooning for a bit. I'll try to look for something different. Anyway, good to hear from you as always. Kind regards.

  • Searching Youtube to see how a favourite song of mine might be played, I find this!

Hi Graham - this is a lovely rendition; thanks for this - and the chords!

  • Good afternoon, Jim. Thanks very much for this and I hope it helped. I had to fiddle around with the chords a bit so they might not all be bang on, but the majority are close enough (and low enough). Regards and thanks for listening.
