Goree Island is off of the coast of Senegal and was the "Slave Depot" where over 20 million African Men, Women and Children were taken from other countries in Africa to Senegal and then off to other parts of the world and into slave labor. The term often used when referring to this island is "The door of no return."

  • The plaque says: "Today millions upon millions of men, women and children say no to misery and shame. For men who were yesterday treated as slaves by those in power, have declared in their hearts that they were men.

And many have died over the course of three centuries, so that no one would ever forget."

  • time of the shame!!
