Part 2. By cutting the end of a drinking straw you can make a musical reed instrument that you can actually play a tune on. You will also gain some insite into the science of sound and music. This video is beta (I need to get video footage of various reed instruments).

  • There are hunting workshops on learning how to make an elk call with a drinking straw just like this.

  • @jer623 I just looked at some elk calling videos and I can see how that might work.

  • I think you meant to say it sounds like a "didgeridoo". It sounded like you said a didgetytoo. Just wanted to point that out so if you ever talk about a didgeridoo in class, you dont misslead the kids on what it is ACTUALLY called.

  • you could probably make a "oboe" out of that not a wonderful sounding one but it is still a double reed

  • i cant make my straw sound like that :(

  • 0:51 this face

  • Thanks for this video, I'm going to try this out with my class! The girl at 2:09 sounds like she's playing John Coltrane.

  • This reminds me of when I tried to play a friend's sax...I got that terribly squeaky noise. Hand me just about any brass instrument and I'll make good tone...hand me a reed instrument...well...that's another story...haha

  • niccccccccccccccccccccccccccccceeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i think they make that annoying high pitch noise with the straw cuz like maybe they touch the little v cut with their tounge
