@syyenergy7 This was a live show.Daly would have been taken off of the air by Paley before the first commercial had he attempted to do that.It is very possible that the blackout that Tuesday was staged to cover up the murder of Kilgallen.

@nyfachris81 did not know that, thanks for the info!

Not quite. Dorothy's death was tragic, but Arlene and particularly Bennett were later to say in interviews that they both tended to keep their distance from Dorothy after chance comments or snatches of conversation they made in the dressing room later showed up in Dorothy's column.
Bennett was very vocal about the fact that he was disappointed that Dorothy's inability to be discreet necessitated this aloofness between the other panelists and Dorothy.

I'm a cynical wise-ass. I would have taken the show in a new direction "Who really killed JFK?" in memory of Dorothy Kilgallen. Make the show serious. Guarantee the audience would grow.

I think everyone thought/knew, Dorothy didn't accidentally kill herself. So I think they were trying to cope with her death and trying to come to terms with 'why'. Dorothy was KILLED. Probably by the same group that killed JFK and Marilyn Monroe. You don't need to be a conspiracy theorist to think/see this. You just have to know there are a lot of bad people in very high places.

I love the way everyone tries to stay in good spirits, even though you probably know that they're crumbling on the inside-

Did Bennett REALLY need to press her on her political affiliation? I hate when his smarminess rears its ugly head.

John Daly was an educated, accomplished man. He sounded very intellectual and polished...which were true about him. Nonetheless, I have to believe he had genuine connection with the folks on the show and the passing of Dorothy caused great strife for him. This had to have been one of the most challenging moments for him.

In retrospect they ought to have just canceled the show upon Kilgallen's death. For practically 15 years you have 4 of the 5 spots manned by these same people, and 3 of the 4 panelist spots by the same people. The show really never worked with two of the regulars missing from the panel, unless the replacement was Arlene's husband who was practically a regular.
I think that after Dorothy Kilgallen's passing, the show was never quite the same - since Kilgallen, Bennett Cerf and John Daly have been together since the show began on February 1, 1950 - I agree, they WERE just like a family-
