Jeff Weaver, the original Dream Weaver, won 104 games in his career. He was involved in a 3 team trade in 2002 between the Tigers-A's-Yankees that involved among others, Weaver, Bonderman, and Lilly. Weaver went 5-3, 4.04 ERA with the Yankees following the trade. 2003 didn't go as well. On 7/13/03, Weaver had his 2nd stellar start of the season against the Blue Jays, allowing 1 run over 8 IP and 7 Ks in a win to lower his season ERA to 5.20. Eight days later he started the second half of the season vs the Blue Jays and his Yankee career was all downhill from there right through the postseason. This cheesy video recap highlights what happened all too frequently in 2003. Weaver finished the season in the Yankee bullpen with a 5.99 ERA. To Weaver's credit he was later productive in his 2 stints with the Dodgers posting a 38-29, 4.20 ERA over parts of 4 seasons. More recent Yankee fans should feel free to substitute the images of Weaver shown here with A.J. Burnett.:-) Gary Wright and Bob Seger help tell the story along with some insight from Michael Kay and Jim Kaat.
