exactly you just answered it, if all these other car manufacturers have this in place then why don't lexus imploy a similar thing instead of a beep noise! :D
No, engines of other cars won't break likely because their automatic/automated manual (like DSG, SMG, R-Tronic, E-gear) gearboxes won't let you overrev it. Either by changing for you even when in a manual mode or by not allowing you to engage a gear which would send the engine into the red line area.
Maybe the Lexus gearbox has such mode available as well.
In case of manuals, you'll simply hit a rev limiter and bounce off of it.
The beep only comes on in Manual mode to alert the driver when to shift. It's a safety feature for the transmission and it protect your investment.

No, I don't work for Lexus.

do you work for lexus or something?
you trying to tell me all those other cars which have no beeps out there for over reving will all break.....
all i'm saying is that there should be an option to put it off as it would get real annoying to the driver....

You can "turn it off" once and forever. Just don't overrev the engine!
Then the beep will not come, once and forever.
If there were no beep, you would keep revving and hit a rev limited instead. Which is much more unpleasant and dangerous (sudden drop of propulsion).

yes i understand what it is for, we all know that, but what i am saying is why would we need a bleep noise to tell us this everytime we accelerate?
after a while it would simply annoy me! there should be an option to switch it off
