To launch the theme of Creativity and the Brain, KANEKO's Great Minds Series brought together GRAMMY Award-winning songwriter, Rosanne Cash and neuroscientist Dr. Daniel J. Levitin for an evening of musical performance and scientific exploration.
What happens in the brain as we compose and play music? What happens as we listen to music? What is the relationship between the lyrics and the music as the brain processes a song? These are just a few of the questions that came up during this special program, balancing the arts of science and music.
The memoirs of singer/songwriter Rosanne Cash, titled Composed, have just been released. She is a frequent guest on NPR's All Things Considered and Fresh Air with Terry Gross.
Dr. Daniel J. Levitin is the James McGill Professor and Director of the Laboratory for Music Perception, Cognition, and Expertise at McGill University. He is also a sound engineer, musician, and author of The World in Six Songs and This is Your Brain on Music.
