Update: This works with Windows 7 W7.

With Windows 7 and Vista 64, old DOS programs do not work. Also, Windows XP has problems running some DOS programs. There is a solution to this problem called DOSBox. DOSBox can run DOS programs in the Vista and XP environments. DOSBox can be downloaded for free at dosbox.com and there is a link to the program on the SchoolFreeware website. Schools and individuals can use DOSBox to run their old software and DOS games. This tutorial shows how to get, install and use DOSBox.

DosBox can be downloaded here: http://dosbox.com

The link to OldDos (install file containing QBasic) is found here:
http://download.microsoft.com/download/win95upg/tool_s/1.0/W95/EN-US/olddos.exe

Turbo Pascal 5.5 install files are found here:

  • what is olddos whenever i type olddos it says illegal command.i am using windows xp.please help me

  • @siddiq007hunk First, make sure that olddos.exe is located in the programs folder and the programs folder is placed within the dosbox folder. Mount the programs folder in DosBox. Change to the c drive and change the directory to whatever folder is holding olddos.exe then type olddos at the command prompt and it should work. Also- If you are using Win XP, Qbasic will work without DOSBox. QBasic is compatible with Win XP

  • ok so now i got the hang of it. except when i go to install the progam using dos box. it says "this program requires microsoft windows" help please :)

  • @brianbeal18 That program needs some version of Windows. Dosbox runs DOS programs.

  • is Qbasic and TP required to run games

  • @platinumspino2 QBasic and Pascal are not required to run games. Some people wanted to know how to install QBasic and Pascal in DOSBox.

  • Do you have down syndrome?

  • If you have this problem with turbo pascal:

Every time you hit install it shows a message: "Cannot Execute UNPACK.COM, S)KIP FILE, a)bort?" simply before installation scroll down to "enable unpack&utility" and change it from "yes" to "no". You can see what i'm talking about at 5:56. I did this and so far i haven't faced any problems with tp. Sry for my english. I hope this helped you

  • so, i'm trying to play a game called shakii, i did all the correct things. placed a programs folder inside the dos box directory. created a folder inside programs called shakii and put the files that are already installed into the shakii folder. i use dos box and enter all the correct directories and try to run shakii.exe but it says "cannot find drive" what is the reason for this? dos box doesn't JUST install dos programs right?
