Birdprayers (2007-now)
Multi-discipliner ongoing project

Birdprayers is a response to the contentious issue of religious conflict. Believing that art in public space is one of the most effective means of deconstructing stereotypes, and creating an awareness of diversity and differences. An individual's perspective is closely related to personal values and judgments, but also to the feeling of safety and comfort in one's own environment. Birdprayers attempts to address the relativity of these feelings and people's sometimes rigid adherence to them. It is an interdisciplinary, intercultural and ongoing art project, which, to strengthen its power to achieve its goals, will be constructed around the world in versions specific to the locale. Each edition of Birdprayers will be accompanied by the video performance "All in the Mind", and will include a combination of installations, sculptures, drawings, paintings, prints, readings, discussions and other forms of communication, sometimes in collaboration with other artists.

Till now we made three editions of the project: one on Bali (with an exhibition in Sika Gallery with paintings, drawings and sculptures) one in Yogyakarta in Indonesia (with a discussion at IVAA, Indonesian Visual Arts Archieve) and one in Istanbul. The next one will be very soon, in The Hague in The Netherlands. This is to put it all into different perspectives.

The concept is based on the ridged aspect of identity. Because of that the human often uses himself (and so also his own background) to relate the rest of the world to, is the dialog with, the acceptation of and the respect for the rest often missing. With Birdprayers we want to talk about the relativity of thoughts and feelings.
These videos of Birdprayers are only a small part of the whole project. Birdprayers manifest itself every time is one or more disciplines: videos, performances, installations, sculptures, drawings, paintings, prints, readings, discussions and other forms of communication, sometimes in collaboration with other artists. Till now we made two parts of the project: one on Bali (with an exhibition in Sika Gallery with paintings, drawings and sculptures) and one in Yogyakarta in Indonesia (with a discussion at IVAA, Indonesian Visual Arts Archieve). The next one will be in The Netherlands and after that we want to continue in other parts of the world. This is to put it all into different perspectives.
