They actually made us read the book and watch the movie while I was at the Air Force Academy. Why a book about a navy ship in the air force i'll never understand.

@Xtina018 PS did u know actually keith died in i believe a plane or car accident shortly after this movie was made?

@Xtina018 THAMKS FOR POSTING THIS I LOVE THIS MOVIE!
ALL HAIL CAPTAIN QUEEG!

The Captain should have been on the bridge, however who was to be OOD in command of the Conn??

I had teachers like this. They become negative, and browbeat the kids for everything. There's even a youtube video of a teacher giving a kid a profanity-laced tirade when the kid isn't even talking.

Darn this reminds me of my Dad, he drove our boat over over fish lines, got into the motor. While giving me hell, once again.

Maybe some liberties were taken with HW`s novel, but it turned out to be an excellent movie anyway. The best line-"well, hes real navy". "Yeah, so wascaptain Bligh".

@JuanMacready I disagree. The perception I get is that Queeg's weaknesses and inability to effectively lead men is responsible for his career not advancing as far as it should have. Thus, the older Bogie brings it off, if you take it in that vein. By the way, if you have not read it yet, "Halsey's Typhoon" is absolutely wonderful, and in it you'll meet the real Captain Queeg (Or at least the officer he was based on).

@moogamax Richard Widmark or Marlon Brando would have been far better.

@JuanMacready That's true. In the book, Queeg is twenty-nine when he assumes command and thirty when relieved. But I can't name any actors of that age who could have given a performance as nuanced as Bogey's. He leaves you uncertain whether to despise him or pity him, which was the question at the heart of the novel.
captain queeg rules!!!
