The brilliant Gerhard Taschner (1922-1976) plays Max Bruch´s Violin Concerto No 1 (final movement) with the Berlin Philharmonic conducted by Fritz Lehmann (rec. Berlin November 1944)
@AndreiKrakovsky I am willing to admit that I am not educated. I did not know Speer personally, and never met even met him. You have an advantage over me. If you know Speer was a monster, you must personally have known him very well indeed. Hell. I don't even know my own brother that well enough to determine if he is truly a monster or I just think he is. You tell me to get a reasonable education (presumaly about Speer). How can I? Those times have gone, and so has Speer.
At least you admit you are not educated. That certainly helps explain why you would think Speer was not a monster. I never said "American good, German bad." What I did say is that NAZIS are bad and the people who support them are bad. I am willing to debate ideas based on an intellectual, rational analysis of information, but calling me a "toady for the United States" is just childish and silly. Go get yourself a reasonable education and then come back and talk with me.
@AndreiKrakovsky I don't need an education. You have one, and look where it has gotten you - a toady for the United States. I look beyond what you think - American good, German bad.
By the way - brilliant brilliant stuff. I think the orchestras now tend to drown out the soloists. Gerhard was obviously a brilliant young violinist, very good looking, and died much too young.
@AndreiKrakovsky But you know NOTHING of this man's mind or character. You never met him, any you never knew anyone who knew him. Before the war, the Nazi's were extremely popular all over the world. Even events like Crystal Nacht didn't sway Hitler's popularity. Those know saw Hitler's treachery before others were quickly killed by the SS. Are you saying every person who initially supported the Nazis is a fascism supporting racist? Playing concerts for the Nazis is a good way of surviving.
@tlcooper93 "If its your homeland that you love" you might stay to fight to free it from fascist Nazi pigs, but you do NOT stay to play concerts for them on demand. I CAN judge Taschner by his actions which are evidence of his mind AND his character.

Perhaps an education would have helped you. Too bad you missed out on one.

@AndreiKrakovsky Don't talk rubbish. Albert Speer was not a monster. Talk about popularist propaganda! Stop crawling to the Americans!

I would leave matters of heaven and hell up to God, not Dante.
I would like to say that this is a very interesting discussion, and I do appreciate your professional outlook upon this.

As Dante said, the hottest places in hell are reserved for those who, in times of moral crisis, preserve their neutrality....
