March 14, 2010 BAUE Rec Boat. 10 divers aboard the Escapade, braving formidable surface conditions to find a couple of very nice dives at Butterfly House and Aumentos Reef.
@cheesepants05 Well I do like the Flip, but that's because one of my main criteria is actually something small and nimble that I can whip out anytime during the dive. For me, that means no big rigs, and no video lights. A lot of my friends with more substantial photo/video gear mount onto scooters, or have to go through a process to "deploy" the rig and get it ready for shooting when they see something they want to film. I have enough trouble just diving to have to deal with that extra step :)
We weren't very far offshore at all (Aumentos is inside the bay and Butterfly house was clearly visible on the shore) but it is on a boat and I wouldn't want to have to swim back, especially with the waves breaking as they were :) Max depth for each dive was about 80ft, average depth 50-60ft.

do you prefer the flip Ultra HD over a larger camera rig? I'm thinking about getting one and need someones opinion.

I'm from the bay area and drive down to Monterey to dive.
